Paul Hines, former Manchester City player, and City correspondent for the Manchester Evening News, has died. Paul Hines has played for Manchester City. He had a memorable career as a sports journalist after his retirement from Manchester City

He was also part of our 1967/68 Division One title-winning squad under Joe Mercer and Malcolm Allison and was one of four players from that side to retrospectively receive a winner’s medal for his endeavors back in October 2021.

Paul along with Stan Horne, Bobby Kennedy, and the late Harry Dowd did not receive medals at the time due to a smaller allocation being awarded by the Football League when City secured the league title in May 1968.

After leaving City, Paul went on to play for Charlton, Bury, Crewe, and Macclesfield before subsequently concentrating on a hugely successful full-time career in sports journalism with the MEN.

Over the course of more than 30 years with the paper, Paul became one of the most widely read and recognised sports journalists in the region, and was widely acclaimed for his wit, wisdom and entertaining writing.

He held a number of different roles with the MEN including being the long-term City correspondent and more latterly chief sportswriter before eventually retiring from the paper in 2006. Everyone at Manchester City sends their condolences to Paul’s family.
