In a bid to deal with the situation arising in the state due to incessant rains and increased levels of water reservoirs, the Water Resources Department is working on a war footing by prioritising work with the deployment of additional staff at sensitive places.
It was disclosed by Water Resources Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer today after taking stock of the situation at the department. While the employees of the Water Resources department are ready to deal with any untoward situation by maintaining constant vigilance on various rivers, canals, water courses and natural flow channels. To ensure an uninterrupted power supply to the residents of the state, staff has been deployed at submerged power grids. So far, three major power supply has been restored after draining out water.
Meet Hayer further said that the Water Resources department and the local district administration are identifying the breached or sensitive places, where empty bags and sandbags are being sent. The help of MGNREGA workers will be taken for this work. This work will be done immediately after the water level recedes. Taking the incident of a breach in Dhussi Bandh on Sutlej River seriously, XEN and their teams posted at these stations have been deployed for immediate replugging of the breach. Breaches are being plugged at two places with the help of the Army, NDRF, and Mandi Board.
The Water Resources Minister further said that full assistance is being given to GMADA and the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh for the speedy repair of damaged pipes at Kajauli Water Works to ensure the supply of drinking water to the Tricity. Meet Hayer said that the department is keeping a close eye on the water level in all the dams and the condition of the rivers/canals.
